Personal Effects of the Coronavirus
The Jozette
may we see the world with gentle eyes
Vol. 1...Article 3
It is Monday, March 23rd, 2020. We are 8 days into the "Coronavirus guidelines for America."
On Monday, March 16, 2020 the White house issued Coronovirus guidelines for the United States, calling for 15 days of "social distancing."
Governor Andrew Cuomo giving one of his daily briefings this morning, concerning the Coronavirus and all of the requirements and needs of New York City and New York, said today in some of his final remarks - some more touching things concerning the times we are in and how to make the most of them. In his remarks, he said "don't underestimate the pain of isolation. It is real, not to be comforted, not to be close. To be afraid and you can't hug someone." He mentioned two men by name - Billy and Steve, and he said he had not seen them in months, and he couldn't even shake their hands or hug them. He said, "this is all unnatural." Which I know we can all completely agree and empathize with. At another moment in the briefing he said. "You have more time with family. And yes, I get family in cramped quarters, can be difficult, but it's also the most precious commodity."
He said "for me, this young lady, Kara, is with me" when referring to one of his daughters. He said, " the last thing you want to do is hang out with the old dad and hear old dad jokes. They'll come for the holidays, they'll come when I give them heavy guilt, but I'm now going to be with Kara - literally for a few months! What a beautiful gift that is! (as a huge smile came cross his face).
He says, 'right?' I would have never had that chance, and that is precious...' Finally, he said, but this crazy situation, as crazy as it is - gave me this beautiful gift."
This is something I hope we will all take to heart as each one of us navigates this situation.
At another moment in today's briefing, Governor Cuomo said to
"realize the time frame that we're expecting, and make peace with it and find a way to help each other through this situation. "
As a final thought he said, " socially distanced but spiritually connected."
Isn't that the message we all need to hear? I know I do. And, I particularly appreciate, these personal remarks that Governor Cuomo has been saying on a daily basis, as he gives his briefings.
Yes, it's an unlikely inspiration for many of us, but in this time when we should all be putting politics aside, I feel it's very heartwarming and hope that the briefings will continue to touch on the personal effects as we all face this " invisible war," together.
